古語有云：「蓬生麻中，不扶自直」此話道出了環境對每個人成長的重要性。踏入創校200年，英華書院在過去日子，如同一片鬆軟肥沃可耕之地，在天公造美和耕作者悉心栽培下，一直孕育出文化創意界別不少菁英。《壤》—英華書院創校200年視覺藝術展，正好透過橫跨繪畫、攝影、水墨、版畫、雕塑、影片及裝置等多種媒介，向社會大眾完整地呈現英華書院身為「藝術土壤」的特質，與及創意種子怎樣由幼苗不斷萌芽滋長、最後結出碩果累累的收成。
As the old Chinese saying goes, “Horseweed grows robustly in a field of hemp even without ties and supports.” Environment is a crucial element in determining one’s development. Entering her 200th Anniversary, Ying Wa College has been the fertile hemp field that nurtures elites of Arts and Culture. The theme of Ying Wa College Bicentennial Visual Arts Exhibition, “Soil”, comprises paintings, photography, ink works, printmaking, sculpture, installations and multimedia, aiming to showcase “the soil for arts” on which Ying Wa College has watered and nurtured the seeds of creativity over the years, and share with the general public her fruitful harvest.
